What is stainless steel?
Stainless steel, or stainless steel. The name says it all, this is steel that cannot rust. Unfortunately, this is not entirely true and the name stainless steel would do more justice to the material.
Rust is caused by oxygen and water coming into contact with the metal. Stainless steel is stainless steel because Chrome and Nickel are added to the steel. The chrome ensures that there is a layer over the steel that is corrosion resistant. If nickel is added in the right proportion, the stainless steel gets a durable shine with a higher corrosion resistance. The ratio 18/10 is often used on cutlery, this ratio has a nice appearance and is corrosion resistant and can therefore also be washed in the dishwasher.
Stainless steel is not completely stainless because the chrome layer can be affected after a long time. As a result, oxygen and water can come into contact with the metal again and rust can occur. For this reason, it is recommended that you remove food scraps from your cutlery as soon as possible, because these food scraps can affect the Chrome layer on your cutlery, causing it to lose its stainless property.
All Lusso products are made of stainless steel 18/10. In our opinion, this is the most durable with the best appearance for our cutlery. We then have a PVD coating over this for even more corrosion resistance and to give the cutlery the color. Stainless steel remains beautiful and usable for longer with good maintenance, read about this in the blog about Tips for cleaning your cutlery to enjoy the beautiful cutlery even more!
